Australian political parties are required to be registered in order to have their party affiliation next to their endorsed candidates printed on ballot papers.
Registration with the Australian Electoral Commission also makes parties eligible for election funding once they have reached the 4% primary vote threshold.
A wide range of minor political parties exist in Australia, ranging from conservative religious groups to fringe anarchist organisations.
This is the current list of registered political parties. It shows the dates of recent new registrations.
