One in three girls will be sexually abused before the age of sixteen

These stats are from Holly Martin from Safe4Kids, who presented at a symposium at the uni of NSW in Feb, 2016. You can also find her in Hansard as she is a passionate advocate for child safety. Her stats are similar to the study done by Maxun et al., at Qld Uni in 2007, that found 28.5% of girls and 15.4% of boys had experienced some form of sexual abuse.
Her stats agree with a recent Auckland study which found over 23% of reported sexual abuse in female children and 1:3 girls before they turned 16, (helpauckland.org.NZ).
The Australian Institute of Criminology,(1993), reported 1:3 for girls and 1:6 for boys in relation to their stats on the sexual abuse of children. The ABS found 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 7 boys had experienced sexual abuse in 1996. The ABS published 1:4 and 1:7 for girls then boys respectively in 1996.The stats or reporting standards shown in this post show not much has changed.
Fleming, 1997 published that 20% of women had experienced childhood sexual abuse. An ABS report (Bridging the data gap for family, domestic & sexual violence, 2013), reported that 19% of women and 5.5% of men reported sexual violence since the age of 15. Reported sexual assaults have risen for the third consecutive year according to the ABS. These stats are worse for special needs children.
Prof. Frieda Biggs (RIP) found that 88% & 44% of special needs girls and boys respectively are sexually abused.
